2026 ORWBL Regular Season Recap

The 20th ORWBL regular season is officially in the books as we saw a ton of shifting around the league heading into the year. Shortly before the start of the season, word broke that both the defending champion Elkhart BFAM and the Lakeport Bombers would not be back for 2026. The league office made some quick adjustments as we finalized our 14 teams with the Hudson Lake Heat heading back to the American League. After a lot of movement during the offseason plus a wildly entertaining 2026 season, let's take a look at each team as we get set for the Postseason.

National League #1 Seed: New Carlisle Newts (25-5)

Prior to the start of the ORWBL regular season, New Carlisle announced that this would be the Farewell Season for Migley Field as the league's most storied ballpark will be closing at the conclusion of the 2026 season. This news shocked folks around the league as Migley Field has served as the league's premier venue for the last 20 seasons. The Newts franchise gave Migley Field quite the Farewell tour throughout the season as they played all 30 of their games at Migley Field while playing as the road team in half of them. The Newts put together a storybook regular season as they finished with an NL best record of 25-5 to earn a 1st Round Bye. New Carlisle's 18 game winning streak broke a franchise record as they swept 6 consecutive series' between Weeks 3 through 8. Former Cy Young winner Matt Soos put together another phenomenal campaign on the bump by going 20-2 while also being voted as the NL Starting Pitcher for the ORWBL All Star Game. Young slugger Brett Mason had a breakout season as he led the team in HR, RBI, & Runs as his success played a huge role in New Carlisle's dominant season. The Newts would love nothing more than to send off Migleyville with a 5th ORWBL World Series Title as they have positioned themselves well to do exactly that. This Newts roster is even better than they were in 2024 when they won the ORWBL World Series and will head into the Postseason as one of the favorites to win what would be a record 5th title. The Newts will be off on Sunday as they will await the winner of the Panthers vs. Knights Wild Card Round Series.

National League #2 Seed: Olive Township Mechanics (21-9)

Olive Township re-entered the league last year under new management as Sam Bull took over the storied franchise and turned them into immediate World Series contenders. After an earlier playoff exit than they would have hoped for, Bull got to work and put together one of the most impressive offseasons in ORWBL history. After the news about the Lakeport Bombers hit, Bull made his move and added Austin Traxler, Aiden Traxler, and Brody Traxler to the Mechanics ORWBL roster. What was already a World Series contender turned into one of the clear favorites after bringing in the Traxler brothers. Olive Township followed up their phenomenal offseason with a 21-9 regular season as they earned the #2 seed in the National League. Mechanics Skipper Sam Bull took home some hardware during All Star Festivities as he beat Maple City's Ethan Bumgardner 18-16 in the Finals at Migley Field. With one of the most potent lineups in all of ORWBL, this team has as good of a chance as any team in the league to hoist the trophy at the end of August. Olive Township will host the 7th seeded Mishawaka Meatspins in the Wild Card Round Best of 3 Series on Sunday at Castle Park.

National League #3 Seed: Twin Branch Billy Goats (16-14)

In what was a crazy offseason, Twin Branch also made a splash as they signed one of the top fielders in the game in Jeremy Ross. Pairing Ross with Austin WIlliams and Lucas Oletti in the Outfield sure seemed like a recipe for success as Twin Branch boasts one of the best Outfields in all of ORWBL. After a fantastic start to the 2026 regular season, Twin Branch ran into some troubles mid-season as they had a 1-8 stretch that looked like it would really impact their seeding. The Billy Goats then went 7-2 over their final 9 games including series wins over Granger and County Line which made the difference in Twin Branch earning the #3 seed. While they had some inconsistency in 2026, this is a roster that has all the talent that they need to make a legitimate run at a World Series title. They saw Justyn Fox have a breakout season as he was named as a National League All Star for the first time. With plenty of talent at their disposal, Twin Branch has their eyes set on revenge as they will get a chance to eliminate Glen Lee who sent them home in 2025. This will be the 2nd straight year that we will see a Doran vs. Doran playoff series.

National League #4 Seed: Granger Panthers (16-14)

After getting swept in the World Series last year by Elkhart, Granger came into 2026 expected to do what they always do by dominating the regular season to earn a top seed in the NL. 2026 treated Panther fans much differently than they are used to as Granger had to win a game during the final week of the season to secure a winning season. The Panthers were able to win a game vs County Line to secure a 10th consecutive winning season as this has been one of the winningest franchises in league history. While Granger put together their worst regular season in team history, it would be silly to count out the Panthers who have always been able to turn on that extra gear when needed. The defending NL champs have all the talent they need to make it back to the World Series but due to their struggles in the regular season will have to face off against Delvin Zinn and the County Line Knights in the Wild Card Round. If Granger is able to get past County Line, New Carlisle awaits them in the NLDS.

National League #5 Seed: County Line Knights (16-14)

County Line put together another winning season after starting the 2026 regular season with a 2-7 record. After that slow start, the Knights went 14-7 over their final 21 games which is much closer to the performance expected heading into this season. With 2025 National League Gold Glove, Rookie of the Year, and MVP Winner Delvin Zinn leading the way, County Line has all the talent that they need to make a run at a World Series title. Zinn put together another fantastic season as he led the Knights with 57 HR while also winning his 1st ORWBL HR Derby Title. Knights Skipper Cade Skornog also had a great year as he belted 51 HR. Camden Bashaw also had 45 HR as all three players finished inside the Top 5 NL HR Leaderboard. Zinn led the National League in HR, RBI, and Runs and will now look to help lead this County Line squad to a Wild Card Round victory at Rose Park vs. the defending National League Champion Granger Panthers. County Line's route to the World Series is certainly tough but this is a talented roster who nobody wants to face in the Postseason.

National League #6 Seed: Glen Lee Skeeters (8-22)

It was not the season anybody expected in Glen Lee as the Skeeters had blossomed into one of the National League's young top teams in ORWBL. Just 2 years removed from being 1 win away from a trip to the ORWBL World Series, Glen Lee struggled for much of the 2026 regular season. The Skeeters started the year with a 4-5 record but things quickly went south as they would lose their next 9 games falling to 4-14. They were not able to find their rhythm for most of the season but with an incredibly talented roster led by Kade Stone & Casey Shultz, Glen Lee has all the makeup to pull off the upset. The Skeeters will also rely on Peyton Doran, Alec Holland, Nolan Crail, and Ethan Simper as we will see if this core can replicate some of their playoff success that we saw back in 2024.

National League #7 Seed: Mishawaka Meatpsins (8-22)

The veterans over in Mishawaka head into the Postseason looking to play the Cinderella role after a tough regular season. We have seen these guys do it before as we know Mishawaka brings their best come playoff time. With that said, they will have a tough test in the Wild Card Round as they will travel to Castle Park to take on the Olive Township Mechanics. Mishawaka traveled to Castle Park back in Week 9 as they were able to take a game on the road. They showed that day that they still have what it takes to beat Olive Township and will look to match what they did in that victory. Mishawaka pulled off a massive upset in the Playoffs last year by taking down the 2nd seeded Skeeters after they finished the regular season with a 12-15 record. The Spins were the 7th seed when they pulled off the upset vs. Glen Lee as they will look to do it again, but this time against Olive Township. The Mechanics will definitely need to bring their best after becoming the first #1 seed to lose to a #8 seed in the 2025 Postseason, falling to Hudson Lake. Despite the tough regular season in 2026, we only have to look back to last year for a reminder of what these guys can do in the Postseason.

American League #1 Seed: Maple City Magic (25-5)

For the first time since 2020, the Maple City Magic finished atop the American League standings after going 25-5 en route to earning a 1st Round Bye. After 4 consecutive titles from 2017-2020, Maple City was swept by Granger in the 2021 ORWBL World Series as the Panthers hoisted their 1st ORWBL title. Maple City played in 6 consecutive World Series' from 2016-2021 but have not made it back since getting swept by the Panthers. The 2026 version of the Magic look much different than those from their title days after a crazy offseason. The Jonkman brothers departure to Valparaiso stunned many around the league after Jared and Caleb played 9 season in Maple City, helping lead the Magic to 4 ORWBL World Series titles. Just over a month before the 2026 season shortly after BFAM announced their departure from the league, Maple City made a massive splash by signing 3x ORWBL World Series Champions Walter Griffin III, Brandon Terry, and Josh Trim. This capped off one of the craziest offseasons in ORWBL history as Maple City would end up tying their best regular season in franchise history in 2026. All 3 players put together fantastic seasons this year and were named to the American League All Star team. Ethan Bumgardner put together the best season of his ORWBL career as The Kid led all of ORWBL in AVG and Runs while finishing 2nd in Home Runs. 2026 ORWBL All Star Game MVP Wes Ellis played in all 30 games as one of the league's all time greatest players continues to climb the All-Time Leaderboards both at the plate and on the mound. The new look Magic will now look to replicate their success from the regular season as the American League playoffs will run through Maple City. They will have this week off as they await the winner of the Cyclones/Heat Wild Card Round Series.

American League #2 Seed: Valparaiso Volunteers (22-8)

After an impressive year two turnaround in 2025, Valparaiso made a league shifting move after announcing that Jared Jonkman was leaving Maple City after 9 seasons to join the Vols. The move sent shockwaves around the league as Manager Cole Deardorff made it clear that Valpo was going all in for a World Series title. The reigning American League Co-MVP Jared Jonkman put together a special first season with the Vols as he led all of ORWBL in both HR and RBI. The Sheriff played a key role in Valpo winning 22 games as that move quickly paid off for Valparaiso. The Vols saw Cole Deardorff finish as the American League leader in wins on the mound as he was the Starting Pitcher for the American League in the ORWBL All Star Game. Dearforff and Jonkman were not the only Vols to have big seasons as Aaron Ketchmark, Mason Capouch, and Owen Winters also made the American League All Star team. Ketchmark exploded onto the scene this year and had some massive moments in what was a breakout season. The Vols also made a late season addition as they brought in former AL MVP Caleb Jonkman after his departure from Maple City over the offseason. Jonkman played in the final series of the season and is playoff eligible as this roster is loaded from top to bottom. Despite finishing as the #2 seed in the AL, Valpo won 2 out of 3 games against Maple City earlier in the season as they showed that they have just as good of a shot as anyone to win the American League. After a tough first season in the league, Valpo's Cole Deardorff has quickly turned this franchise into legitimate World Series contenders as they will begin their Postseason journey at home vs. the Green Stem Great Lakes Godfathers in the Best of 3 American League Wild Card Round.

American League #3 Seed: Mill Pond Pink Pandas (19-11)

After pulling off one of the greatest ORWBL Postseason upsets in 2024, the Pink Pandas have established themselves as one of the premier teams in the league after another top 3 finish in the American League. Mill Pond came out a bit flat in 2026 as they held a 6-6 record through 12 games. The Pandas would then go 13-5 over their final 18 games to re-establish themselves as one of the elite teams in all of ORWBL. With most of their core group in place from their 2024 run to the World Series, Mill Pond once again has their eyes set on a deep run. Manager Zach Christy, Clayten Strauch, Todd Snyder, & Aaron Hogan were all named to the American League All Star team as this group has been incredibly consistent over the past 3 years. It will be quite the scene on Sunday as the Pink Pandas get set to host the Blood Sweat & Beers in The Battle for Union Mills. With both teams calling Walter Metts their home ballpark, things should get very interesting on Sunday as Mill Pond took 2 out of 3 from Union Mills during the regular season. Expect an incredible playoff atmosphere at Walter Metts Field in the first ever Postseason matchup between the two franchises.

American League #4 Seed: Flat Rock Cyclones (17-13)

It was quite the turnaround season for Flat Rock who many expected to finish over .500 this season. Things were not looking good after 12 games as the Cyclones held a 3-9 record. Flat Rock would then put together one of the most dominant stretches in team history as they would then go 13-2 over a 15 game stretch. It was a fantastic 2nd half of the season for Flat Rock who nearly pulled ahead of Mill Pond for the #3 seed in the American League. They dropped their final series of the season to a very talented Valparaiso team in 3 games that could have gone either way. With that said, Flat Rock has shown the ability to hang in there with any team. While the Cyclones have been a sleeper pick over the past few seasons, they will head into their Wild Card Round matchup vs the Hudson Lake Heat as the favorites to win the series. Flat Rock will undoubtedly be looking to their star Jackson Buzea to have a huge impact as he has shown the ability to win games by himself. With Buzz leading the charge along with the rest of the Cyclones proven core, Flat Rock is no longer a sleeper pick by any means. This is a team that has struggled in the Postseason over the past few years so a playoff series win over Hudson Lake would be a huge weight lifted off the group's shoulders and they have all the talent they need to make a run at the Pennant.

American League #5 Seed: Hudson Lake Heat (10-20)

Hudson Lake continued their run as the most flexible team in ORWBL history after yet another move back from the National League to the American League. The Heat started the year with a series win over Union Mills but struggled to win a series the rest of the way. While that was their only series win of the season, they were only swept on two occasions as they remained a sure fired bet to at least take a game no matter who they were playing. While the Heat finished with a 10-20 record, we can look back to just last year where Hudson Lake went into the Postseason as the 8th seed in the National League Playoffs. The Heat made history becoming the first 8 seed to take down a #1 seed as they stunned the Mechanics in an ORWBL Postseason upset for the ages. The Heat will now look to replicate that same Postseason success from last season back in the AL where they will square off against the Flat Rock Cyclones. While Flat Rock heads in as the favorite, Hudson Lake reminded everyone last season that you can't sleep on the Heat especially once August rolls around.

American League #6 Seed: Union Mills Blood Sweat & Beers (5-25)

Despite finishing well below expectations, Union Mills heads into the Postseason with a lot to be excited about after a strong finish to the season. The BS&B played in a ton of close ballgames this year as they had a lot of 1-run defeats and Walk-off Losses. Ethereal Townes was once again voted in as an American League All Star as he continues to grow into one of the top young players in the league. Union Mills Manager Brycen Strauch joined in on the crazy offseason as he signed Conder to a Rookie deal. The first year lefty quickly blossomed into an ORWBL All Star as Conder has been a great addition both at the plate and in the field for Union Mills. With former AL Rookie of the Year winner Garrett Remkus continuing to improve, Union Mills has to be excited where things are at despite the 5-25 record. After many close losses, this group really broke through at the end of the season as they took down the Pink Pandas in Week 8. They then went into Magic Park and handed Maple City their 5th Loss of the season in what would go down as one of the most memorable wins in regular season history for the BS&B franchise. After wins over Mill Pond and Maple City, Union Mills will look to pull off the Postseason upset over the Pink Pandas in the battle for Union Mills at Walter Metts Field.

American League #7 Seed: Green Stem Great Lakes Godfathers (4-26)

Although the Godfathers underperformed this year, Green Stem Great Lakes saw a breakout season by Gino XL who was named to the American League All Star team for the 1st time in his career. The ORWBL Veteran put on a show for the fans at the ORWBL All Star Game as his hustle played a key role in the American League winning the series two games to one. Gino XL was up to bat with the series on the line as he hit a pop up to the Catcher in what looked like it would be an out. Gino XL gave it his all and legged out a single as his hustle led to the game winning Home Run from Wes Ellis for the AL. The first time All Star led the Godfathers in HR as it was a memorable season for Gino XL. Green Stem Great Lakes Manager Matador Smith logged innings and belted 20 HR along with Mark Haase who was also named to the All Star team. Both veterans continued to add to their storied resumes and will look to pull off an upset on Sunday vs the Valpo Vols. They picked up a victory over Hudson Lake on the final week of the season and will look to carry that momentum into the Postseason. Shortly before their Home Finale, the Godfathers official twitter account posted that this would be the final season for the storied franchise. If that ends up being the case, you can be assured that they will be looking to make a serious run in August in what could be the end of a special run of 10+ years for Michigan's ORWBL franchise.
