Maple City's Wes Ellis Wins 2026 American League Cy Young Award

Awards week continues as we will be announcing 2026 Regular Season Awards leading up to the 2026 ORWBL World Series. All 6 Awards were voted on by the 14 Managers as 3 points were awarded for a 1st place vote, 2 points for a 2nd place vote, and 1 point for a 3rd place vote.

Congratulations to the 2026 American League Cy Young Award winner, Wes Ellis of the Maple City Magic! Ellis won an incredibly tight vote over runner-up Cole Deardorff and 3rd place finisher Kadin Abegg after showing up on 13/14 ballots while receiving 6 1st place votes.

This is Wes Ellis's 3rd Cy Young Award and 1st since 2018 as he becomes just the 3rd Pitcher in ORWBL history to win 3 Cy Young Awards, joining Griffin Smith (4) and Walter Griffin III (3). It was an 8 year layoff between his last one after Ellis took home honors in consecutive years in 2017 and 2018. It is the 2nd longest stretch between Cy Young awards as Jared Emmons won his 1st in 2007 before winning his 2nd in 2016.

Ellis finished the 2026 season with a nearly perfect 12-1 record, sporting a 6.02 ERA to go along with 4 K's. He finished 3rd in the AL in ERA and 4th in Wins as Maple City nearly won every game that he pitched in. Despite being in a timeshare with Walter Griffin III, Ellis was able to win the vote after putting together a dominant season from start to finish while helping lead the Magic to a 25-5 record as he played in all 30 games for a 2nd consecutive season.

He took home All Star Game MVP honors after tossing a No-Hitter in the 3rd and deciding game of the All Star Series. The 3x Cy Young Award winner put on quite the display on All Star Saturday Night as this was his 2nd time earning ASG MVP honors while becoming the 1st Pitcher in ORWBL history to toss a No-Hitter in the All Star Game. After winning an incredibly competitive vote, he will now look to help lead Maple City to their 5th ORWBL World Series title.
